Cooperation agreement among farmers to build an efficient silvopastoral system

In Italy the average size of farms is about 8 hectares. Such a size does not allow large investments and often does not guarantee to the farmer an adequate income.

The current climate change, with huge fluctuations of meteoric events and increasingly extreme events, such as the drought of 2017 in the Mediterranean areas, increases the farmers’ uncertainties. To make sure that the farm is ready to face possible considerable losses of production in certain sectors, it is necessary to direct the agricultural activity towards the diversification of production.

Também foram abordadas as melhores maneiras de divulgar essas inovações pela Europa.

Los socios y agentes de innovación (Innovation Brokers) de AFINET se reunieron en Cracovia (Polonia) para compartir las innovaciones que se han identificado en las nueve redes regionales de innovación agroforestal involucradas en el proyecto, con el fin de mejorar el conocimiento aplicado sobre este tipo de prácticas, y discutir sobre las mejores formas de difundir estas innovaciones por toda Europa.

AFINET partners meet in Krakow at the halfway point of the project

Partners and Innovation Brokers of AFINET gathered in Krakow (Poland) to share and discuss the innovations identified in the nine regional agroforestry networks involved in the project, to improve the applied knowledge about AF practices. The best ways to spread these innovations through Europe were also addressed.

“Putkisalon kartano” farm, Rantasalmi, Finland

The “Putkisalo kartano” farm is located 300 km north of Helsinki in the Finnish Lake District. The farm is managed by the farmers Susanna Nuutinen and Mikael Westerstråhle. It is a very diverse farm. The farm produces sheep for breeding and meat production, lamb meat and cereals. The farm also has some forest for timber production and manages traditional rural landscapes.
