Open field visit to agroforestry on swales in Heuvelland

On the 9th of April, a field visit was organised in Heuvelland, where over the past few years experiments took place with agroforestry systems on contour swales, as a means to control erosion on-site.

Other benefits are clear: increased biodiversity, connecting forest fragments, better water management, etc.

About 40 interested people attended this open field visit, ranging from farmers, neighbours and local authorities to policy advisors and teachers. Local press also reported about this regional event.

Fire flocks - fire risk management with pastures

Silvopastoralism is a common practice with high benefits for society (landscape conservation, fire risk management, and the production of high quality meat and dairy). But the presence of herds and shepherds is more and more rare, leading to the growth of fire prone forests.

Thus, the presence of livestock in woodlands has become a shared interest by owners, farmers, firefighters, environment rangers, and businesses willing to sell food products with an added value.

EIP-AGRI Workshop ‘Cropping for the future: networking for crop rotation and crop diversification'

This two-day event will take place on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 June 2019 in Almere, the Netherlands, and the EIP-Agri service point is looking for participants!

Farmers and farmers' organisations, agroforesters, entrepreneurs, SMEs, start-ups, advisory services, universities, research technology organisations, rural networks, and anyone who may be involved in relevant projects or has experience with engaging in, designing and/or implementing crop rotation and/or crop diversification practices across Europe are invited to apply.
