Why establish biodiverse pastures rich in legumes?
Dehesa is a man-made silvopastoral ecosystem. It is characterised by a high biodiversity, but pasture production can be low, especially in winter and summer. Consequently, many farmers are dependent on external fodder sources, making the dehesa a less economically sustainable ecosystem.
On 7-9 May 2019 AFINET partners visited Hungary and met in Sopron to share and discuss their plans on future project activities.
Several issues were address over the meeting, such as cooperations of the nine regional agroforestry networks for creation of new innovations materials, the best ways of dissemination of these innovations, as well as further enrichment and maintenance of the AFINET Knowledge Cloud.
The Czech minister of Agriculture explicitly mentioned agroforestry systems as one of the tools to combat climate change in a press conference.
Miroslav Toman was addressing the journalists in a press conference of the National Draught Coalition, broadcasted by the Czech television.
The French Agroforestry Association and the Fondation de France wishes to welcome you to a full-day, free entrance event, open to the general public on Sunday 19th May, just one day before the official launching of the 4th World Congress on Agroforestry. The event will take place in Montpellier, France (Corum conference centre).

The Portuguese Innovation Broker of the AFINET project, Joana Amaral Paulo participated in “Ovibeja”, an agricultural fair that includes several events, professional and educational stands, and conferences. The Portuguese AFINET IB was invited to speak at a conference named “Climate change- impacts in Mediterranean farming and forestry”.
Her presentation titled “Impact of climate change on cork oak stands”, showed several results from studies on this subject.
The European Commission's Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development convened, in the end of April, a conference called "Our forests, Our future", to analyse and discuss opportunities and challenges for enhancing the contribution of the forest sector to the main EU priorities.
