Preparing the land

A comprehensive diagnosis of the land potential to bear trees (studying the soil, climate, topography, etc.) allow farmers to choose the appropriate species to plant. It also helps identify appropriate soil cultivation operations to be carried out before planting.

Gunarsholt’s windbreaks in Iceland

The farm in Gunarsholt belongs to the governmental agency – Soil Conservation Service (SCS). In 1944, Icelandic government purchased the land and undertook efforts to restore the land to the sustainable production. After many years of intensive work, the farm is presently simply submerged in greenness.
